Former head of Mossad starts secret talks with Iran

“Israel is facing new opportunities thanks to those changes that the Middle East is experiencing. This process has not finished yet, it’s continuing and it’s hard to predict its results. However, there is no Saddam Hussein now, no Gaddafi, no Salah in Yemen, and even Bashir says he won’t run for the presidency in Sudan. The sooner we use these opportunities, the better.”
Such a statement was made by the former head of Israeli intelligence service (Mossad), Meir Dagan, at a conference devoted to the 90th birthday of Israeli President Shimon Peres.
Dagan also said that Israel should break free of stereotypes and enhance ties with the Arab World and Islamic countries in general. He also stressed that, in spite of all fears, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi had adopted a well-based line on Iran.
Israel and the Arab League still have different opinions about various issues, but there is a good opportunity for dialogue, he believes.
Commenting on the country’s conflict with Iran, Dagan noted that even though the new Iranian president started with anti-Israeli remarks, Israel should not respond in a similar manner. The country would be better trying to start a dialogue.
“This dialogue does not need to be open to the public. The official side of the relations can remain the same. The dialogue may be started by diplomats and special services,” Dagan says.
Many experts believe now that these remarks prove that Israel has already started secret talks with Muslim countries.
